Lazy Susan kick it off true to their name. Clean, bright pop supporting sweet assured harmonies, that ease into subdued rock. A nice dynamic.
Then they get a little more upbeat, the clean acoustic guitar, sitting on top of occasional shuffling time changes, which keeps it interesting. The use of perfectly placed slide guitar adds to their country feel...
Warm cosy doona pop. Stoner pop anyone? If the genre didn't exist-it does now.
To call Waikiki layed-back is a gross understatement. Having said that, they kick in with the rock-chops when needed.
They play a minimalist slinky line of tightly woven grooves. Sparse, sleepy rhythms, building into discordant urgency, before falling away into trippy FX laden guitar. Sexy-tight...the big-time beckons.
The Whitlams never fail to put a smile on this dial. Even at their most melancholy, their infectious tunes gets the head a noddin'-the toes a tappin'.
Their music should be a study for anyone starry-eyed and foolish enough to consider a career in the rock. Their set is a delicious mix of perfectly structured songs- an exercise in killer dynamics, wrapped in punchy pop.
Tonight was something old, something new. Pulling from Introducing The Whitlams, Eternal Nightcap, and their newie, Love This City, they slayed the faithful through a crystal clear mix.
Blow Up The Pokies, Thankyou(for loving me at my worst), You Sound Like Louis Burdett, Melbourne, No Aphrodisiac...classic pop.
Play them in 20 years, and they'll still sound as fresh and as vital as they do today.
Legendary!!.
