A shitty wet Friday night, but no friggin excuse for the lack of bods in the house. What is it with northern beaches punters? They whinge and bitch about no live venues, and then they don’t bother to get out and support one of the few NB venues that actually gives a shit! Hmmmmmm?
Anyway, that off my chest, this was one wicked night of rock that had us hooked from the outset. Local young honchos Noogie are doing great things Stateside, and it’s easy to see why.
Very cool guitar driven, pop-tinged rock that’s easy to take and as fresh as a new born frog. Perfectly serrated, just the way we like it!
SG loved Danger, and I gotta say, Noogie really do know how to write a great song! Perfect dynamics, and totally loving what they do up there on stage.
Very cool kickarse flavoured pump that’s snap tight, and a lotta fun to boot. Two guitars, bass and sticks never sounded so damn good.
Smile is a little quirkier at first, then slots into the coolest rock savaged groove. I’m hooked! Squelched passion plus…these guys have a handle on it all…harmonies, melodies, the works.Scorch. Croon. Kick.
Noogie do it all! Me smell big future!
Lavaland come at us with squelched samples, and tripped FX that wrap around the rock nugget nicely. Snarly, gnarled rockscapes with plenty of barbed melodies and jagged moments that swirl and blend and squeeze out the other end like aniseed toothpaste.
Moody, broody scapes that meander and pillage, yet leave no ill feeling. (Make sense? Nah? Ah well!) And then we get all picnic rock like, still as slick but a little less octane in the mix. Upbeat in all, and very nice indeedie! Our first encounter, and definitely not our last!
Imported heroes of the night, Muzzy Pep have been killing it on the airwaves with their quirked little pep pill I Haven’t Got The Time, and I’m hanging to catch their new stuff, as it’s been quite a while since the last meeting!
With a cordial intro and a polite request for all to move forward, Scott does his solo thing before the whole shebang literally explodes in our face. And hello Sydney to you too!
Pepsters are go, as rock comes to town. Scorched guitars, butt kick rhythms, spooky dynamix and shit-tight forays into the very heart of Rockville. And then it gets even harder, as those razed melodies slap all in their way, with rock marrying pop in the scathingest of way. Special stuff indeed.
Sweaty Newcastle rock has a new ambassador! The new single comes across so slick and fad free…perfecto a go-go! Throw in the odd joke, plenty of well fuelled energy-packed hard edged guitar rock , and we’re talking rock stock and two smokin’ barrels that run from machine gun to fireball to squeaky clean…and all the furry critters in between. Muzzy Pep have it all covered. Fully established rock Gods seek loving servants! Get big you bastards!
What a night! If you were too fucking lazy to get of your arse and get along, then you missed a mega night of home grown, hard core talent! Your loss! Rock rules!
